Banking, business licenses, and anything government-related can make anyone nervous the first time—especially in the adult industry. I navigated it solo for a while, but eventually getting expert help made a huge difference.
I still laugh about the year my accountant and I sat down to file everything at once: military forms, W-2 jobs, stripping, peepshows, and brothel 1099s. A full variety pack.
A lot of industry platforms offer advice or push people to set up LLCs, file taxes, or get insurance, and honestly—some of it helps. I even remember when the brothel brought in Aflac to talk to us. But the truth is, at any moment a bank can freeze or close your accounts, and having your paperwork and structure in order makes the blow a lot smaller.
Navigating bureaucracy (yes, that’s the right word) becomes something you get used to, but I genuinely believe that sometimes bringing in a professional saves you money, time, and stress in the long run.
Payment processors can be their own nightmare in this industry. They can back out, delay payouts, freeze accounts, or hit you with high fees out of nowhere. Yes—there are companies that specialize in adult-industry processing, but you still have to stay prepared. Not because the work is shameful, but because this is simply how the business landscape behaves.
I grew up in an entrepreneurial family, and even “normal” brick-and-mortar businesses deal with financial agencies, random compliance headaches, and bureaucratic hoops. The difference is that in our industry, those problems show up more often and hit a little harder. My heart goes out to every entertainer or business owner who’s had one of those WTF is happening right now? moments.
I’m drifting a bit, but the point stands: every platform or website we rely on becomes both a tool and a potential liability. Hosting anything—content, communication, payments—opens a door to problems you didn’t ask for. Working in this industry demands resilience, patience, and the ability to pivot fast when things shift.
